The next movie coming at us from DC will deliver more of a deep cut from their superhero catalogue, when Blue Beetle explodes onto our screens.

Puerto Rican director Angel Manuel Soto takes the reins of this one, which stars Cobra Kai’s Xolo Maridueña as reluctant superhero Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle.

Here’s the story: “Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the superhero Blue Beetle.”

The character of Blue Beetle has an interesting history, originally hitting the world way back in 1939. There have been three distinct incarnations, with Jaime Reyes being the third one, introduced by DC in 2006.

Blue Beetle also stars Adriana Barraza, Damían Alcázar, Elpidia Carrillo, Bruna Marquezine, Raoul Max Trujillo, Susan Sarandon, George Lopez, Belissa Escobedo, and Harvey Guillén.

DC's Blue Beetle is set to be let loose in Australian cinemas from September 14. Here’s our latest taste, via a “final” trailer:
