Love him or loathe him, there’s always something interesting about a new Wes Anderson movie. His pastel hued upcoming Asteroid City is no exception, boasting a wild story featuring aliens, and an even more stacked cast than ever.

Let’s start with that cast, which features many regular Anderson collaborators, plus several new faces. Deep breath and here goes: Adrien Brody, Steve Carell, Hong Chau, Bryan Cranston, Willem Dafoe, Hope Davis, Matt Dillon, Grace Edwards, Rupert Friend, Jeff Goldblum, Tom Hanks, Maya Hawke, Scarlett Johansson, Sophia Lillis, Aristou Meehan, Edward Norton, Stephen Park, Tony Revolori, Margot Robbie, Jake Ryan, Liev Schreiber, Jason Schwartzman, Fisher Stevens, Tilda Swinton, Rita Wilson, and Jeffrey Wright.

There are so many big names in there that they don’t even all appear in the first trailer for the movie, which you can take in a little further down this very page.

As for the story, Asteroid City is set in a fictional American desert town around 1955. The official synopsis reads like this: “The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organised to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.”

The story was penned by Anderson and his regular writing partner Roman Coppola.

Asteroid City is currently set to hit Australian cinemas from June 22. Pop on your sunnies and check out the first trailer:
