How does the Logitech G Pro X 2 Lightspeed wireless gaming headset perform in the heat of battle?

With gaming headsets, you have a lot of choice. So, it comes down to features – and what you’re willing to pay for them. Logitech G’s Pro X 2 Lightspeed wireless gaming headset aims to deliver pro-grade quality, but without destroying your bank account.

Many people like wired headsets due to their lack of any delay in getting the sound to your ears. So, when going wireless, a lack of latency is critical – you don’t want to be the last to know that you’re about to get got. Logitech’s exclusive Lightspeed technology aims to deliver low latency, better connectivity, and long battery life – we’re talking up to 50 hours.

Our extensive testing indicated that they’re on the money, too. Charge-wise, the Pro X 2 had plenty left in the tank following a long night of gaming, and it literally never missed a single beat while we were playing, testament to Logitech’s claims of reliable connectivity. We’re also talking pleasing range here. They’ll work flawlessly up to 30 metres, apparently - we had to go out into and down the hallway of our apartment building before they cut out. Obviously, that wasn’t good for our game at the time, but hey, it was all in the name of science!

If you don’t wish to use the USB dongle Lightspeed setup, then you can flip to Bluetooth connection, which couldn’t be easier to get firing. Just press the Bluetooth button and pair with your device. Everything’s controlled from the left of the headset, from the USB-C charging port to the power switch, volume wheel, and Bluetooth and mute buttons. There’s also a 3.5mm connector for old school wireless connection, so the Pro X 2 will connect to pretty much any audio-generating device that you can throw at it. In use, we found it easy to fiddle with the volume without being too distracted, which is always a plus, and usually remembered to mute when we wanted to – it’s a manual button press process here.

Those who aren’t always into chat will appreciate the flexible Blue Icepop condenser microphone, which has a built-in pop filter, and can be bent out of the way or just easily removed. If you’re PC connected then you also have access to Logitech’s ‘Blue Vo!ce’ tech, which allows several real-time voice filters, ranging from reducing noise, de-essing, and adding compression. It’s controlled via downloadable G HUB software, a free download that allows all sorts of tweaking.

Ultimately all the bells and whistles in the world can’t make up for average sound, and the Pro X 2 headset certainly comes through with flying colours on the sonic front. Packed inside each ear are 50mm drivers that are made of graphene. This is a cool, space age material is made up of tightly bound carbon atoms, offering incredible strength while also being flexible and light. Used here, it means seriously low distortion, and greater detail than ever. So, we’re talking a fuller range of sound, and more spatial awareness in games with good sound design – behind you! Behind you!

While playing while wearing the Pro X 2 didn’t always stop us from getting destroyed, that was more down to our ability rather than any deficiencies in this ace sounding headset. Beyond shooters, our personal favourite genre of rhythm games delivered a satisfying level of thump, as did our tests with music, ranging from acoustic numbers through to more DOOF-laden tunes.

So far, so good – everything you need in a top-end headset. The final part of the puzzle is something that can be subjective, and that’s comfort. At 345g, the Pro X 2 isn’t the lightest headset around, but you’re hardly strapping bricks to your head either. We found it very comfy, and easily adjustable to “just right” status with its rotating earcups. The headband is padded with soft leatherette, and while the included leatherette memory foam ear pads are no slouches in the comfort stakes, the additional velour pair that’s packed in provide an even more pleasingly soft alternative for your hearing holes. Speaking of what’s in the box, as well as the Lightspeed connector, plus 1.8mm USB-A to USB-C charging and 3.5mm to 3.5mm cables, there’s also a handy little carrying bag.

With cool, old school non-flashy styling added to the mix – there’s no RGB lighting, but neat little touches like coiled cabling - if you’re after a top-quality gaming headset that won’t let you down in the heat of battle, and will sound wonderful while you’re there, then be sure to check out the Logitech G Pro X 2.
