Jaws in Space given the green light at Universal

38 years after 'Jaws: The Revenge', cinema’s greatest predator is set to return in what’s being described as an out-of-this-world creature feature, inspired by James Cameron’s Avatar films.

While legacy sequels are all the rage and Hollywood is notorious for cashing in, it’s still shocking that they’d dare return to the waters of Jaws - a film many consider sacred.

Nonetheless, Steven Spielberg’s iconic classic - arguably one of the greatest films of all time - is getting a fifth instalment, with Universal Pictures greenlighting the project, tentatively titled Jaws in Space.

Though details remain scarce, it’s safe to assume from the title that the series is following the well-worn path of tired franchises: into space.

Rumours suggest Captain America and Jumanji director Joe Johnston may be involved, with Jurassic World writer David Koepp also attached.

In a recent statement, Universal Pictures said, “We are thrilled to bring one of the greatest movie icons back to the screen, taking the series in a new direction to oceans beyond our solar system.”

Just when you thought it was safe...
