There’s something beneath the water in Night Swim

We’ve had movies about possessed everyday things ranging from cars to fridges to tyres, so why not a swimming pool? Say hello to ‘Night Swim’ from, who else? The fine people at Blumhouse.

Written and directed by Bryce McGuire and based on his 2014 short film of the same name, production credits for this supernatural thriller include horror bigwigs Jason Blum and James Wan.

The tagline? “No running. No diving. No lifeguard on duty. No swimming after dark.”

The cast, meanwhile, is headed by Wyatt Russell (Overlord) and Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), with Amélie Hoeferle and Gavin Warren also featuring.

Story-wise, “Ray Waller, a former major league baseball player forced into early retirement by a degenerative illness, moves into a new home with his concerned wife Eve, teenage daughter Izzy, and young son Elliot.

“Secretly hoping, against the odds, to return to pro ball, Ray persuades Eve that the new home’s shimmering backyard swimming pool will be fun for the kids and provide physical therapy for him.

“But a dark secret in the home’s past will unleash a malevolent force that will drag the family under into the depths of inescapable terror.”

Eep!

If this sounds like your idea of a fun summer dip, Night Swim is hitting Aussie cinemas in the peak night swimming time of this week - from January 4, to be exact.

Here’s a peek behind the scenes, with the latest trailer beneath that:
