It’s the end of the road for the beloved Byron Bay Bluesfest.
All good things must come to an end.
It’s a sad day for Australian music. After more than three decades, the beloved Bluesfest has announced that the next event will be the last.
Festival director Peter Noble issued a statement today to “my dear Bluesfest Family”:
“Bluesfest has been a labour of love, a celebration of music, community, and the resilient spirit of our fans. But after the 2025 festival, as much as it pains me to say this, it’s time to close this chapter.
“I want to make it the most unforgettable experience yet. If you’ve been thinking about it, now is your last chance to experience our beloved festival.”
Bluesfest will go out with a bang, with the final event happening over Easter next year, April 17 to 20, at the 300-acre Byron Events Farm, 11km north of Byron Bay.
Since it started in 1990, the festival has hosted some of international music’s biggest names, including Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson, Paul Simon, Patti Smith, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Jones, Jackson Browne, John Fogerty, Robert Plant, Noel Gallagher and Lauryn Hill.
And Bluesfest has showcased a stack of local legends, including Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel, Crowded House, Paul Kelly, Kasey Chambers, Keith Urban, Jimmy Barnes and Missy Higgins.
As the press release points out, “Bluesfest has always been more than just a festival; it’s been a gathering of souls, a place where lifelong memories are made, and where music transcends boundaries.”
The Bluesfest organisers are promising a “fitting finale”. Stay tuned for the first artist announcement.
