Why Kerser's new album is the rapper's supreme swan song

It's long been known by admirers of Kerser that the Sydney rapper has always had a specific game plan for his musical endeavours: 10 albums in 10 years.
Quite aside from the five mixtapes he's sprinkled throughout his near 15-year career, the rapper known to his mum as Scott Froml has stuck to his guns... and his final record, A Gift & A Kers, is ready to be birthed to the world.
Kerser himself admits it's a poignant moment. “I know it’s a hard pill to swallow,” he says, “but this was my goal from the start, and the mission is almost complete.”
The record is named for the two-sides-to-the-coin nature of fame, as well as Kerser's unprecedented dark horse success.
Sonically, A Gift & A Kers is like an Eras Tour through the artist's evolution, from his breakout album No Rest For the Sickest in 2012, via 2015's ARIA Gold Next Step, meandering through his next five albums (which all made the ARIA top 5), dipping into his celebrated mixtapes of 2009 – 2020, and stopping off wherever the ever-inventive artist found a beat that moved him.
“I feel like I covered every Kers style, so it really takes the fans on a journey,” he explains. “There’s stuff on here to make my fans laugh, cry, reminisce, get goosebumps, think deep and feel motivated. There’s some hardcore street stuff and heaps of addictive hooks and killer bars as well.”
A Gift & a Kers by Kerser drops via ABK Records.
