The latest nominations for the 2022 AMP Music Prize feature some of Australia’s top musical talent.
Yes, the awards are back for an 18th consecutive year, with a winners’ event – determined from final shortlist of nine albums - planned for March 1, 2023, in Sydney at the Oxford Art Factory.
The cool new additions to those already plucked from over 400 releases include How to Grow a Sunflower Underwater by Alex the Astronaut and Pre Pleasure by Julia Jacklin.
If you missed it, Genesis Owusu received the 2021 AMP for his album Smiling with No Teeth.
Sais Owusu of the award: “It means a lot that there are initiatives like the AMP that look to platform and support art purely on artistic merit, rather than any other surrounding factors. The fact that they show their support financially is not only rewarding, but crucial in a post-COVID world, and has personally helped my career as I continue to tour and make more music.”
