Instant cameras are all about spontaneity, and fun! To get the best out of yours, follow these handy tips.
1. Use natural light
Instant cameras and film perform best in well-lit environments, so shoot outdoors or under bright lights when inside to avoid underexposed shots. When shooting in low light, use the flash – many instant cameras have automatic flash control.
2. Get creative
Plan your shot compositions so as not to waste film, and experiment with different angles and framing techniques for more dynamic or artistic shots.

3. Don’t get too close
Most instant cameras have a minimum focus distance, so stay within the sweet spot for sharp images.
4. Double up
Many instant cameras have a double exposure mode, allowing you to blend two images for an artistic effect
5. Choose the right film type
Instant film comes in different formats and sizes, depending on the brand of instant camera – Polaroid or Fujifilm Instax. Always choose film that’s compatible with your camera type and preferred photo size or border style.

6. Personalise your prints
Decorate the borders of your prints with stickers or coloured markers for that personal touch, or use in-app tools and emojis to embellish your shots.
7. Store film correctly
Keep unused film in a cool, dry place and avoid exposing it to extreme heat or humidity to ensure the best quality.
8. Don’t shake the photo
Despite the myth – and the Outkast song – never shake your prints “like a Polaroid picture.” Let them develop face down in a dry, dark place to avoid any streaks and imperfections.
9. Keep it stable
Some instant cameras support tripod connection to assist with stability for low-light photography or long-exposure shots.

10. Show off your shots
Proudly display your physical prints creatively in photo albums, scrapbooks, or wall collages for a permanent gallery of moments and memories.
