5 things we love about the new Ultimate Ears Miniroll speaker

Paul Jones

STACK Editor-in-Chief

Despite sounding like something we’d enjoy eating, the Ultimate Ears Miniroll is a cracking little Bluetooth speaker. Here are five things we love about it.

At a glance
  • Affordable price tag

  • Highly portable and durable

  • Big sound from a small speaker

  • Unlimited linking with other Minirolls

  • Long battery life

The Price

If you’re looking for the perfect birthday or Christmas (yes, you know it’s not far away) gift, or even a first speaker for one of your ankle-biters, this is a legitimate option. Feature-packed and from a reputable brand, it retails at a price you won’t have to lie to the budget keeper in the house about.

The Portability

At only 105mm wide, 43mm deep, and weighing just 279g, it’s practically pocket-sized or can be thrown in a bag for some mobile music when you’re on holiday.

However, mounting options are endless, via the handy hookable strap attached to the back. You can even hook it in the shower for that essential sing-along session thanks to the IP67 rating and drop resistant design.

For walkers, it can be fitted to a belt, backpack, or handlebars to soundtrack your offroad ride. We even slipped it on the dog’s harness and blasted out Elvis’s Hound Dog on our walk, to much public amusement!

The Sound

The Ultimate Ears range is always in the conversation whenever we're asked to recommend Bluetooth speakers. From the throbbing bass of the Hyperboom right down to the little Wonderboom 4, the boffins at UE always nail the audio.

And surprisingly, considering its size, it’s the same for the Miniroll. The sound quality is truly impressive for such a small Bluetooth speaker. And then there’s the volume… far out, the Miniroll pumps. While there is some distortion at full volume, you won’t need to crank it that high.

Its design delivers 360-degree sound projection, firing audio evenly in all directions. The sound signature is well balanced, the bass is decent, and the highs and mids are crisp and handled well. Throw two or three Minirolls into the mix, and you’ll have a great party accompaniment.

The Daisy Chain

Yep, there are no limits here regarding linking Miniroll speakers together. Utilising Auracast, users can hook up an unlimited number, so it’s possible to blast your tunes right through the house – and outdoors, too. The Bluetooth range is up to 40 metres.

The Battery Life

What’s a portable Bluetooth speaker without the juice to keep the party going? With fast charging via a USB-C port, the Miniroll’s battery life is up to a whopping 12 hours – exactly what you need for that long day at the beach.
