Description
Charlie says of Undone, “I’m so excited to share this next chapter with you all. This record is some of the most honest, vulnerable music I’ve ever written and I expose a lot of who I am and what I was going through. I was excited to explore different sides of myself musically, from the wild side to the fragile, broken side of myself which reflected a lot in the sounds that came out. Thankyou for sticking by me and I can’t wait for you to hear this album.”
Begun over two years ago, in the wake of her marriage separation, Charlie scrapped the album’s first iteration as she began to rediscover her wildness, spontaneity and freedom.
Although written from a place of pain, regret and confusion, Undone has become a cathartic totem for Collins.
Undone isn’t all fire and fury though. It sees Charlie reach new levels of vulnerability but rather than a weakness, laying one’s soul bare requires tapping into unknown resources of strength and resilience. While writing the stark, tender piano ballad ‘November’, Collins remembers being brought to tears as her fingers hit the keys, remembering old hurts. For the closing track on the album, ‘Could I Have Loved You Anymore’, it is here, where Charlie pens and producers (for the first time) her moving piano-driven ballad.
Part of releasing herself from those hang ups and hurt has involved letting others into her creative process for the first time as a solo artist. Co-writes on Undone, include Sydney songwriter Xavier Dunn (Jack River, GRAACE), Japanese Wallpaper aka Gabriel Strum and on the yearning track ‘Hit The Lights’, Charlie teamed up with Jarryd James, a friend of 20 years.
